Specifically, the course aims to train students through theoretical lessons, the imitation of existing professional artifacts, the development of tailor-made briefs, and the creation of materials that can be used to create a future personal portfolio.

The course aims to teach basic and advanced techniques for creating and implementing digital publishing projects. From creating interactive PDFs to designing multimedia presentations, from designing digital brochures to creating fluid ebooks. From the study of the User Experience to the choices for a good User Interface, from the creation of contents for the Kindle to the publication of animated static ebooks, from publication in format epub to the creation of an editorial project in app format.

GOALS :

The aim is to design and create interactive PDFs, presentations multimedia, brochure interactive, infographics of impact, fluid ebooks, interactive ebooks animated, publications for Amazon Kindle with Adobe Indesign and more.

The course aims to provide the appropriate technical skills to professionals in the specific sector.

At the end of the course the student will be able to:

  • Develop your creativity in graphic design.
  • Understand the tools and features of InDesign and several other applications for editing digital and interactive publications.
  • Professionally design any type of digital publishing proposal.
  • Apply visual communication and graphic design techniques to each project.
  • Manage any work request: create a brief, decide which tools to use, which formats to produce, and define the processing and delivery steps.

Specifically, students will have acquired the ability to:

  • Study and analyze a brief provided by the customer.
  • Create a brief if one has not been provided.
  • Define the goals of a project, study the target audience and examine the competition.
  • Analyze and identify the strengths of the editorial project.
  • Choosing the right tools for your project.
  • Studying user experience (UX).
  • Establish the strengths of the user interface (UI).
  • Create a navigation project.
  • Create graphic layouts from scratch.
  • Study typography.
  • Set text and object styles.
  • Decline the project in different formats.
  • Design and create basic digital communication products.
  • Design and create digital brochures and flyers.
  • Design and create infographics and informational materials.
  • Design and create fluid ebooks and fixed ebooks.
  • Produce interactive PDFs, EPUB formats, HTML formats, and APP formats.
  • Be independent in using various software.

Multimedia tools will be used in the virtual classroom.

DURATION: 140 HOURS from the day 10 March per day APRIL 24, 2025 – 31 days of 4 hours each VIRTUAL CLASSROOM and two 8-hour ones (online);

CERTIFICATE: attendance (minimum 70% of total hours including attendance at compulsory lessons);

VIRTUAL CLASSROOM LESSONS:

  • From Monday to Friday from 09.30am to 13.30pm;

PARTICIPATION REQUIREMENTS: the course is aimed at candidates for temporary work missions (both unemployed and jobless) registered and selected from the Employment Agency;

- for foreigners, knowledge of the Italian language and grammar, even if NOT certified;
- you need to have a desktop PC (desktop), laptop or tablet with a stable wired connection, webcam and microphone;

SELECTION METHOD: Access to the course will take place through several preliminary steps:

- Correct submission of the required documentation;
- Analysis of the CV submitted;
- Check the connection devices to be carried out in videoconference;

Course modules

1.1

Digital publishing with Adobe InDesign

  • Introduction to the course: Discover the difference between interactive PDF and EPUB formats, understand what fluid ebooks are, and the differences between a PDF and a fixed-layout EPUB. What publishing apps are and what they're used for.
  • Imagine the project: Study and analyze the brief, identify its strengths, analyze the target audience and user experience. Research similar products and compare them to our brief. Study the reading devices and determine which format to choose for our project.
  • InDesign basic features: Page formats, layout, and main tools. Rulers, guides, and main panels. Text features, typefaces, paragraphs, and text layout.
  • Producing an interactive PDF: Layout an interactive document with text and images. Character styles, paragraph styles, and object styles. Master pages, image editing, and Adobe InDesign's interactive features. Extend PDF's interactive features using specific plugins.
  • Layout of a paper book: general features, learning how to best use master pages, using variables, paragraph styles and how to create an automatic summary and an analytical index.
  • Paperback vs. Ebook: Comparison Differences in style and technical features. Designing a fluid ebook and preparing the material.

Duties and functions of a self-publisher

  • Preparing a fluid ebook: General strategy, division of the project into chapters, management of paragraph styles, text spacing, and image anchoring. Setting text surrounds, underlines, and shadows.
  • Producing a seamless ebook: Manage tables, bulleted and numbered lists, and footnotes. Insert infographics and multimedia elements, create a navigation table, create a cover, link EPUB elements, and manage the "Book" function.
  • Post production: ePub format export properties, metadata management, publishing to online stores.
  • Designing an ebook for Kindle: Substantial differences and key features. Study of the different types of Kindle design, creating static publications, creating comics, and creating fluid ebooks.
  • Conversion and adaptation to the Kindle “kpf” format: Converting the previously created paperback to Kindle format, managing text, chapter divisions, and paragraph styles. Adapting the content to meet technical specifications, inserting tables and images, and checking the preview. Publishing the work on Amazon's KDP website.
  • Notes on Self-Publishing: Amazon and Marketplaces, Amazon Book Classification, Amazon Algorithm, What Are Keywords, How to Research, Analyze, and Generate Them. Promoting Your Book, How Ads Work, How to Set Up and Launch a Promotional Campaign, and Managing Ratings and Reviews.
  • Indesign and multimedia file production: creating impactful presentations, creating animated infographics, and producing interactive brochures.
  • Producing a fixed layout e-book: Content division, interaction design: animate page transitions, create scrolling text, create buttons, animate buttons, create scrolling frames, create static and scrolling photo galleries, animate elements on paths, hide animated elements, insert video and audio files.
  • Converting a fixed layout ebook into an application: How to make your static ebook more interactive using external InDesign applications, prepare your work for various reading formats, increase interaction, and export your work both in HTML format for publishing on your website and in app format for installation on your device.
